Space Rider –
Johnny Osaka is a student in a private high school in Seattle,
Washington. He moved from Japan after his parents divorced and lives
his angst-ridden schooldays getting into trouble and punching bullies
who pick on the nerdy students in the lockers. Until one day, a band of
Intergalactic separatists, pursued by a patrol ship from an alien law
enforcement organization called The Galactic Riders, arrived on Earth
and crash landed on the school yards. A gun battle ensued between the
separatists and Rider ship’s patrolmen Meteor McCoy, Gliwat and
Crank, with Johnny caught in the crossfire. While saving a fellow
student from the gunfire, a plasma grenade hobbles towards Johnny and
the student. He pushed her out of the way when the grenade exploded,
fatally wounded him. After the shootout, the ship medical
officer, infamous for being banned from the Galactic Council of Nation
Planets for practicing controversial surgical procedures, rushed
towards a dying Johnny and takes him to the ship. Determined to save
his life, the doctor had no choice but to proceed with one of his
controversial surgeries: injecting self-healing alien DNA with repair
Johnny’s vital organs and heal his fatal wounds. But there was a
side effect: the alien DNA cells mixed with Johnny’s human cells
caused a chain reaction temporary transforming him into a blue-skinned
humanoid with the ability to survive in the vacuum of space among other
abilities. To keep the shootout incident from going into Earth’s
public media, Johnny is forced to enter the Galactic Riders Academy and
became a space cop himself. Now along with his friend and classmate
Jessie Yamada, Johnny joined Gilwat, Crank and McCoy, and later space
meerkat Dipper, into the department’s major crimes division and
formed a special unit within the ranks. Johnny is designated a codename
by the riders: Space Rider. Johnny is brash and a little rough around
the edges, but is mostly heroic and a thrill seeker. He is occasionally
ridden with angst since his parents’ divorce. He is also forceful
and has a fierce determination. He sometimes argue with Jessie even
when on missions, causing some of his teammates to doubt his overall
actions. But when the stakes are high, Johnny will push through past
his flaws and come in the nick of time to save his friends and complete
his missions. His favorite hobby is illegal motorcycle street racing.
His favorite foods are Gyro sandwiches and California rolls. Fused with
alien DNA, Johnny was the ability to survive in the vacuum of space
without the assistance of a spacesuit, although his unpredictable
physiology also makes him unable to breathe underwater and still needs
a breathing apparatus. His special abilities, when transformed, are
telescopic vision and emitting intense power blasts from his hands,
although due to his half human physiology, these blasts temporary
weakens his metabolism and therefore tiring him; he can only use this
power as a last resort. His is a black belt in karate and judo. He is
currently trained in operating Galactic Rider-issue vehicles and
spaceships; he rides a standard-issue hover bike armed with plasma
machine guns, laser cannons, and air-to-air micro-missile launchers.
Due to his energy-draining power blast ability, he has to most of the
time resort to using standard-issue firearms for combat; his preferred
weapon is a tactical plasma pistol with stun and lethal setting
capabilities. Off duty he rides a Kawasaki racing motorcycle. He
transforms from his human mode to alien mode at will, although he still
has to change his clothing like any other human.

Jessie Yamada –
Jessie Yamada is Johnny Osaka's (aka Space Rider's) friend and
classmate. They currently attend the same high school in Seattle,
Washington. After Jessie found out the Johnny is Space Rider during a
battle with alien gangsters, she was critically injured. To save her
life, she was given the superhuman ability to generate invisible force
shields. She constantly watches over Johnny 24/7. Her favorite food is
octopus samplers. Her favortie hobby is studying to become a doctor.
She is an expert in field medicine, let she has yet to learn alien
pshyology. She is a black belt in karate and kung fu. Like her
teammates, she rides in a Galactic Rider-issue space cycle armed with
automatic-firing plasma cannons, proton torpedoes, and heat-seeking
missiles.

Gilwat –
Gilwat is a member of the intergalactic law enforcement organization
Galactic Riders and is part of Space Rider's Earth-based team. Formerly
a Beta-quadrant mercenary turned private detective, Gilwat is the
team's resident muscle. He possess fantastic strength and combat
experience. He also has a kindhearted interior under his tough guy
phsyique, and alsways lends his emotional support to the team. His
gills in the sides of his neck enable him to breathe underwater. He is
an expert in intergalactic martial arts and was a former pro wrestler.

Dipper –
He is a "space meerkat" and is the team's "comic relief". He was a
former refugee from his home planet when he was incidentally recruited
to the Galactic Riders. He almost flunked out the academy if it were
not for some dumb luck and record shuffling on his files. He's goofy,
wacky-headed, accident-prone and sometimes a pervert. He rushes into a
situation without thinking first. He is always in a tight situation and
is always in danger, and sometimes can be a real pain-in-the-rear!

Crank –
Crank is a space monkey who was a former veteran detective for the
Alpha Centauri system's police department turned member of the
intergalactic law enforcement organization The Galactic Riders. He is a
useful mechanic, forensics scientist, weapons/gadgets inventor/supplier
and a master tactician. He has brilliant detective skills and an expert
forensic. He is a necessary member of the team and a good companion.

Meteor McCoy –
Meteor McCoy is an alien former soldier and smuggler running from an
intergalactic crime syndicate incidentally joining the Galactic Riders
under a false name. He is a daring yet lovable type who also has a
sense of humor. He serves in Space Rider's Earth patrol squad as a
pilot, a special weapons agent and a field medic, with experience and
expertise on all said fields. He looks to Space Rider as a "little
brother" and occassionally teases him. He's an expert with tactical and
heavy alien weaponry and a skilled pilot. He pilots the Shooting Star,
Space Rider's orbiting carrier starship. Although a resident pervert,
McCoy tries to fancy himself as a ladies' man. Has a habit of smoking
cigars during battle.
