26 Quatnum Cycles ago (Galactic calendar version of 13 Earth years) three prototype weapons were created for the intergalactic military arms market which belonged to a top secret genetic project called Polaris: three artificially made symbiote life forms spawned from the DNA cells of several powerful alien species, and one of them happens to be an eight-year old girl who called her creators her surrogate family. The scientists who were forced to create these weapons were preparing to ship to a space pirate group at a deep space rendezvous point, when a rogue officer stages a mutiny aboard rigged one of the symbiotes to explode at the pirate ship, in the rush of the coup, the officer brought the eight-year old to an escape pod and sent her to Earth, but just when the pod have just left the ship, the plan backfired when the pirates triggered the rigged symboite early, causing both the pirate ship and the scientist freighter to explode; thankfully the pod narrowly avoid the blast in time, and continues its' descent towards Earth.
But little did the scientists and the rogue officer know that there was an earlier deal secretly made before the fateful incident: a third symboite has been sold and transferred to an interplanetary terrorist organization. They have decided to keep the symboite in stasis for twelve more Earth years, when they are planning to secretly send it to Earth on a search and destroy mission to send a message to the galactic governments of their political gains. Their plans backfired while on route to Earth, in her own will the symbiote, programmed for nothing but destruction, awakened and destroyed the vessel for obviously no apparent reason, except that she had a telepathic link to the eight-year old girl who escaped the pirate incident years before and believed to be responsible for the death of her "sister". This fully developed in the form an intelligently-evolved young woman, she flies to Earth, vowing revenge. The eight-year old girl who crash landed on Earth later was raised in an orphanage and grew up to be one of Earth's powerful defenders: Pulsar Pureheart.
After arriving on Earth on learning more of Pulsar’s exploits as a first-time crime fighter, the symboite decided to "frame" Pulsar by donning her likeness and costume and began spreading destruction around the world, leading authorities to believe the real Pulsar was behind the attacks, leading to the events that almost destroyed the pink-clad super heroine.
Determined to clear her name, Pulsar pursues the imposter, which led to their first Earth-shattering confrontation. When the world media discovered that they were two Pulsars, the Pulsar impostor undergoes a radical transformation, changing her hair color and "created" her "mirror" uniform to darker scheme and renamed herself Beta Blackheart. “Beta” is appropriately named since she was the second symboite to be created before Pulsar. Now Puslar and Beta, sisters by blood but bitter enemies, engage in furious battles that will determined the future for Earth.
Beta is Pulsar’s dark mirror image. Whereas Pulsar is kind and pure-hearted, Beta is brutal and evil. Beta finds pleasure and sheer enjoyment in causing death and destruction. She lives for the thrill of combat and proven to be a hard adversary to many heroes who faced her in battle, some of them were surprisingly easily defeated at her hands. She is also driven by revenge; although Pulsar is not really responsible for the fateful incident that destroyed their other "sister", Beta believes that she is involved in some way, and is determined to make her pay dearly for these crimes.
Beta possesses the exact same powers as Pulsar in her superhero form: super-strength, super-speed, flight, invulnerability, powered vision, freeze and gale-force breath, emitting various types of power beams from her hands, telepathy, teleportation, survivability in space and time travel. Since she is far less experienced than Pulsar, Beta has not yet developed her identity-shifting powers; that could be both Pulsar's advantage AND disadvantage, since her warrior alter-egos, though gifted with her own set of powers and abilities, and not as invulnerable, strong of fast as her superhero identity, which Beta should have no problem in defeating them. Link Pulsar, Beta is also vulnerable to the "anti-pulsar" beam which makes her also powered when exposed onto her. Unfortunately Beta also has recharging powers from absorbing intense sunlight and solar energy beams, as well as ingesting lemon-flavored rice balls, just like Pulsar. Beta is a quick learner in hand-to-hand combat and is a master in multiple languages.
Beta disguises herself as a reporter for the Cornerstone Watchman, a rival of the Daily Cornerstone, where Pulsar’s boyfriend, Kevin Kowalski works.
